Middle School Girls Test Their Engineering Skills at UCSC

In the past two weeks, 27 middle school girls from Santa Cruz and north Monterey counties have gotten an introduction to engineering — and a chance to explore UC Santa Cruz to get a taste of what college life might hold for them.

For Gianna Meschi, an eighth-grader at San Lorenzo Valley Middle School, the draw of civil engineering is the problem-solving aspect.
