Obama Awards Engineering Diversity Program
President Obama cited Cornell’s Diversity Programs in Engineering as one of five programs nationwide to receive the 2011 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring on Nov. 15.
The award “is a validation of the vision that Kent Fuchs and Zellman Warhaft had in 2004 when, as Dean and Associate Dean of Engineering, they designed a new structure for Diversity Programs in Engineering,” said Richard Allmendinger, associate dean of diversity, faculty development and mentoring in engineering. Rowan University Protecting the Environment Through Engineering
Dr. Jess Everett and his students in the College of Engineering at Rowan University, Glassboro, N.J., are used to attracting attention for their technology triumphs.
Now they’re attracting it for their gardening.
Everett and team have been spearheading a drive to develop rain gardens on campus, working with a $330,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Division of Watershed Management in conjunction with the Gloucester and Camden County (N.J.) Oakland U Gets Grant For Engineering Scholarships
Four professors in Oakland University’s School of Engineering and Computer Science have been awarded a $598,980 National Science Foundation grant to support OU’s Product Lifecycle Management Scholarship Program that will increase the number of underrepresented students studying industrial and systems engineering, and mechanical engineering.
The five-year grant, funded by the NSF Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Program, will provide 32 academically talented and financially needy students with $4,800 per year for up to four years. The scholarships will be evenly split between students of both engineering disciplines. [read full article at CBS Detroit]
